Love Was So Much Simpler Then

love was so much simpler then

cross my heart and hope to die
should i ever tell a lie
criss-cross for ever and ever

everyone thought you'd be the one
but over time everything changes
we grew up and then grew apart
drawn in crayon, carved in wood
our names inside a big red heart
criss-cross for ever and ever

a little cross marks the place where we lay
gazing at the stars, and at the moon
as it traveled across the night sky
dreaming our lives, living our dreams
we'd be together till we die
 criss-cross for ever and ever

hide and seek and count to ten
love letters and the alphabet
wishing wont bring you back again
still, i haven't forgotten you yet
 criss-cross for ever and ever

love was so much simpler then

  1. Lovely piece. Oddly, I wrote a short about a love heart carved in a tree this morning.

  2. There's a song with the line: "The closer you get to love the harder it seems". Is it just that it seems to be simpler from a distance? That is, doe love seem simple or rather is it the memories of love that seem simple?

  3. Isn't it wonderful looking back to past love?
The thought that no one can ever take that exquisite tenderness from you, that it will live forever in memory's archive is priceless.
Thank you for such a beautiful memory :)

  4. Rachel,
How super! It is strange how the thread of thought can be sown :) Thank you.

  5. Daniel,
Love is never simple, it has many faces, but childhood sweetheart love is, in its purity, more simple than grown up love when sex and ex gets in the way *chuckles* anyway this poem is about the pure love of two young children who grew up together, did everything together and practically thought each others thoughts and could not ever imagine being apart. Their world was limited to today until the inevitable happened - they grew up.

And yes I do believe that when you are grown up the closer you get to love the harder it seems:)

  6. Ygraine,
Thank you, however sometimes I wish my memory's archive had a delete button *chuckles* because for some memories to live there forever is such cruel and unusual punishment for tender hearts :)

  7. What a beautiful poem, Rose! I imagined Celine Dion or Barbra Streisand singing your lyrics...wow...
That's pure love, love for love's sake, when we were innocent children and had so many innocent dreams.
I read it over and over again and the more I read it, the more I like it.
    Thanks for sharing.
    A hug.
    :)
