He ..The Sun

He...The Sun

A weak sun drizzles through the frosted pane
draping the window in pale yellow rain
His strength the likeness of threadbare chiffon
He gleans the glad rag the cat preens upon
He pours himself into a tepid puddle
and curls up there for a fuzzy cuddle
He greedily licks at the chilblained hearth
and dulls the embers to suck up some warmth

Ten o' clock comes, he's all over the place
He prods and he probes and he gets in my face
He mocks my wrinkles and fingers the dust
He freckles and fades and bleaches with gust
He beams himself up and he rays around
and scowls at a timid dust bunny he's found
He stretches, rises and glowers up there
so I draw drab drapes to avoid his glare

  1. Rose, such a wonderful poem! Great rhythm and it conjures up the weak English Sun perfectly, as it reaches into every crevice and touches every Soul. Thanks for sharing your fabulous talent with us :)

  2. Ygraine,
You are too kind! and my talent too meager for such lavish praise. But I will thank you most gracefully for your kind words:)

  3. I love this poem. It really does find my timid dust bunnies, and any other dust lying around. Although I don't have frosted panes yet! The days are getting cooler, so it's not far behind.

Thanks for your visits to my Quotes and Things. It is just a fun blog where I post quotes and things because I can't remember anything. ; )

  4. The cat has the right idea, why let the sun ruin a perfect day, sleep it away.

  5. Gigi Ann,
The more you clean the more dust you find when the sun probes = we are in the middle of a severe heat wave so the frosted panes are merely frosted glass - it is so so hot here ... My pleasure - I won't even go there :)) I don't even remember why I have the cotton on my finger anymore :D

  6. Daniel,
Good to see you again! In my next life I wish to be someones treasured cat - indeed:)

  7. Rachel,
    thank you dear Lady :)
