The Devil's Darning Needle

The devil's darning needle
she is named
and for this legend
she is famed

So take heed
of this indeed:-
Daydreamer do not slip
into a sleep
beside a shady stream
As the damselflies
will stitch your eyes
while you lie and dream
 Children do not lie just
do as you're told
Wives be fearful - do not
 nag and scold
Husbands do take care
never to cuss - never to swear
Young ladies please do not pry
and never mix with gossips
 Or the evil dameselfly
will stitch up your lips

  1. A good pic Rose and your writing brought back to mind the long forgotten legend of the damselfly of my youth. I was so afraid of them as a child. The thought of them sewing my mouth closed was enough to get me running away when one was near.

  6. Oh dear...I was kayaking on the Basingstoke Canal the other day, and at least a dozen damselflies were flying all around my face.
I will never, ever nag again...I promise!!
Gorgeous picture, and words of great wisdom...many thanks, Rose x

  8. Gnome, Thank you I was happy that I found one at last to photograph although this pic was taken with my cell phone and so does not do the beautiful colour justice. When I was young anything to do with the devil scared the shite out of me too :)
